Observation details
Continuing, originally discovered by Tom Fangrove. Larger bill and size than Ash-throated, Brown crest, pale yellow belly, dull brown tertials, unlike Great Crested, which has grayish crest, bright yellow belly, and slate with white edged tertials. Extensive rufous on wing. However there was less rufous, mpre dull brown under the long tail than Great Crested. Gave very short, rapid, yet sometimes uneven in cadence, excited yet soft, slightly rising in frequency "chup chup chup chup chip chip chip" calls. Sounds very much like (in frequency and cadence) last part of the "excited calls" (whit whit whit whit whit whit) "on the Sibley Bird app, Version 1.9. Re-found in ravine adjacent to Robert H Lange Preschool parking lot by Jeff Bray. Recording and photos.
