Observation details
Continuing. Location: (39.6523572, -105.1562542). Tiny, plain brown wren with short, stubby tail cocked straight up. Even, warm brown tones with faint, blurry streaking along breast; lacking white in throat and the overall heavy spotting typical of WIWR. Very limited white and dark barring on flanks, diagnostic of a dull PAWR. After reviewing photos, neck sides appear warm brown and relatively unmarked. Call single and double “chit” notes, reminiscent of WIWA, rather than SOSP; calling constantly through entire observation. Walked a little downstream from initially reported location, saw a few tangles that looked good, and pished. The wren started calling immediately from a tangle maybe 20 meters north of the creek, then flew towards me and landed about 2.5 meters from me near the stream. It continued to perch there, calling, for about 10-15 minutes, giving me and the other birders great looks and photo opportunities. Thanks Chris Wood for a great Christmas bird! Photos and audio.
