Observation details
Rare late individual, apparently the first December record for Florida according to the ebird records that I could find. Seen and photographed feeding along mowed path on the circular loop at Eco Pond to the left of the entrance to the pond. Bird was missing some neck feathers on it’s left side. Possibly this was the result of an injury or tick bite. This might be the reason for it’s presents at this time of year. The bird was very dark brown and exhibited very little reddish tone in its plumage. The only reddish tones that where observed was a slight hint on the tail and rump. Otherwise the bird appeared very dark brown. For this reasons I believe the bird to be a Gray-cheeked Thrush and not a Bicknell’s Thrush. I have seen both species well before and from my past experiences I have come to this conclusion. All of the Bicknell’s Thrushes I have seen have appeared to have warmer brown tones that where more evident. I know I this is a difficult group to separate and there is a chance I could be incorrect in my conclusion. I welcome people to go relocate the bird and acquire better documentation.
