Observation details
First observation at 0933. 1 counted on property. 1 individual(s) singing. Adult. First seen at the very beginning of the survey, perched on a metal fencepost SW of the start point. Later seen perched in the Acer negundo N of the stream in reach 4, then flying upstream to another perch after dropping down in the grasses. Next seen perched in the Prunus virginiana row in the SE part of reach 3, where it sang for several minutes. Seemed to imitate several species, including BBMA. Ca 1045 in reach 3, the shrike suddenly appeared and flew in aerial pursuit of 1 ATSP for ca 150 m E along the stream; it had apparently been unsuccessful when last seen perched near there in a dead Alnus incana over a pond. Later, NSHR seen in reach 1, hunting and perching in chokecherry thickets N of the stream. Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 4 on property.
