Observation details
Traits: Small body just like other Pygmy Owls, yellow and black eyes, yellow bill, abundant white spots on head, I think this morph is a gray one [Seen by the binocular], vertical gray streaks on breast, vent white, its tail has 3 to 4 white bands that do not cross the whole are of tail. Behavior: I used playback to make it show up, in effect it vocalized about 5 minutes after I called it. It perched on a pine branch and stayed over there all our birding, it vocalized about 4 times [once we saw it no playback was used again]. Vocalization: Whistles done in sections, slower than other pygmy owl, song can be identified easily when hear, unmistakable, its pattern is like toot toot toot. Habitat: Found at 2,070 msl, pine with broad-leaf forest but the pine vegetation is the most abundant, also secondary vegetation such as Salvia Cinnabarina with a lot of hummingbirds and warblers at the moment. At this area we can find corn fields adjacent with a road that goes to a local community.
