Media notes
Male hoots. A wind chime, water dripping off trees from recent rain, and the distant sounds of water in the main canyon are also audible. The hoots were echoing off the canyon.
Observation details
Three were at Chantry Flats: two males and a female. The female was duetting with one male...and then several minutes later I heard a female duetting with the other male (that is, the sounds of the two birds were close to each other). Perhaps the female is trying to choose a mate? Or it could be that there were two females at the level of the road. When I arrived the first GHOW I heard was also a female deep in the main canyon near Hermit Falls. Audio recordings. Sexes identified by the distinctly different pitches of their hoots.
