Observation details
A large, bulky tern with a long, very heavy bright red bill and a black cap that went to the upper base of the bill. The bird had a light grey mantle and upper wing surfaces. Seen well from within 40 - 100 m as it flew around the marsh, periodically diving. The bird was likely part of a large cohort of birds displaced to NS by Hurricane Dorian. Photos attached.
