Observation details
A mix of immature and mature gulls. The immature gulls had a brownish overall colouration and a medium dark grey patch on the mantle. The birds had blackish bills. The gulls were long-winged, relatively slender looking gulls with relatively thin bills. The majority of the primaries appeared to be all black. The mature bird had similar bills, legs, and proportions as the immature birds, but had a dark grey mantle, white breast and belly, and a bright white head with dark, diffuse marks behind the eyes. The birds were seen well from within 80 - 125 m as they soared above the marsh. The birds were part of a large cohort of birds dislocated to NS by Hurricane Dorian. Photo attached.
