Observation details
The bird perched on a Longleaf Pine tree branch and was calling. Habitat is pine Forest with scattered shrubs, grasses, and palmetto. Distance to the bird was 10-20 ft, and the bird was between 0-5ft from ground. We seen it in clear day light with 10x42 Swarovski binoculars and a Nikon D5600/Sigma 600mm, our lenses were not smudged or dirty because we cleaned them prior to birding this location. I recorded the bird using a Roland R-26 recorder and Sennheiser ME-66 microphone with Sennheiser blimp and Sennheiser Long hair wind coat. We are familiar with this species and have several documented sightings in this county and state. Grey and rusty brown colored sparrow with Buffy tones on the undersides. The bird was notably larger than a nearby Chipping Sparrow but smaller than a Jay. This bird is flagged as rare but they are a year long resident and are well within it's range. This is the first record in November for the county, but this county and hotspot is under birded.
