Observation details
Of interest this morning were five Coturnix quail seen early this morning by Tom Benson near the Slater Street parking lot. Roger found the group in the ditch around the “corner” closer to Golden West Street. Leo and I found them there with some fellow with two dogs (leashed) photographing them about 10 feet away with his phone. I sat near one to photograph it on the turf grass (see photo) and it came straight at me and pecked me begging for food. I picked it up and it didn’t struggle. When I picked it up a second time to photograph with my iPhone, it struggled a bit. I then took it to its mates at the bottom of the ditch - these birds are not going to survive long at all.
