Observation details
Wow! The first time I've run into a screech-owl randomly in the woods. It was along the trail that leads to the back of Arrowhead Lake, to a blind. I first noticed a mixed flock of birds furiously scolding something and saw the owl from a distance. I approached as the mobbing continued and the bird didn't move, but did assume a defensive posture. I took a few photos then backed off. Was still there when I passed the tree again. The mob included titmice, chickadees, Chipping Sparrows, both kinglets, bluebirds, sapsuckers, a flicker, a Winter Wren, Pine Warblers, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Carolina Wrens.
