Observation details
Amazing find by T. Jay Adams on 9/26/19, reported as probable Wheatear and confirmed by photos as Northern. The bird was actively foraging low to the ground and would sit still on prominent perches for long periods of time, bobbing its tail like a waterthrush. The bird was quite tolerant of people despite early reports that it was skittish. It allowed close approach by our group and several of us sat at a picnic table within 10 yards of it while it sat alert. The bird was very long-legged and orange was extensive from throat to breast. Noticed the distinctive white and black tail pattern several times as it dove for prey. The bird was last reported in 9/29/19.
