Media notes
Black Terminal bank, yellow base of bill & gape. Seems to have smaller head than Bald Eagle relative to body.
Observation details
Seen near recent road kill of Ungulate - possibly a yearling Moose. These just started to gain elevation as I arrived on the scene. Gender ID is based upon talon size. Dark Iris. Whitish tail feathers between base and black terminal band would also seem to indicate GOEA as does smaller head size relative to body shape, and yellow at base of bill & gape. However, mottled underwing and lack of distinctive white patches on underwing favor identification of these birds as Juvenile Bald Eagles. Relatively large bill size is another contributing factor to this identification, which was the consensus of the Saskatchewan eBird Reviewers.
