Observation details
This gull was first seen on 19 September by Ricky Hostetler et al. in this same location on the west end of Truman Dam. Primaries 9 and 10 have grown since I photographed it on 21 September and the tips of the primaries with the large white tongue are now about equal to the length of primary 8. This can be seen in photo 371 on the left wing that exposes the underside of the primaries. The red and black spot is visible on the narrow yellow bill. The slightly darker gray mantle can be compared to the nearby Ring-billed Gulls. The grayish yellow-green leg color of the California Gull can be compared to the nearby yellowish legs of the Ring-billed Gull.
