Observation details
Sandy brown upperparts and tail when it flushed from the ground immediately made this bird stand out as something unusual. Long rounded tail with small whitish outer corners of the tail visible when the bird was about to land (saw this field mark about five times). Fine barring on upper surface of the folded tail. Thin distinct eye ring with pale stripe above and behind eye. Small pointed bill with gray upper mandible and flesh-colored lower mandible. Brown and gray scalloped back. Underparts and throat very pale brownish gray with light streaks on the flanks. Overall body size about the size of a Song Sparrow. Very skittish bird that only came out in the wide open two times - once when foraging at the edge of a gravel road and once when it landed on Kim Eckert's tripod!
