Media notes
In flight, with four American Avocets on the water below and two California Gulls in the background. Note dark terminal band on tail and minimal white spots in primaries, indicating a subadult bird.
Observation details
Distinguished from California Gulls by smaller size, slimmer shape, lighter mantle, and in closer photos the black bill ring without visible red. This was the only Ring-billed Gull I was able to find; all the other gulls close enough for me to identify them were California Gulls. The Ring-billed Gull acted aggressive toward the other nearby birds at one point; I didn’t notice such behavior from any of the California Gulls.
