Observation details
Only the second time I’ve seen one here and the first during fall migration. There are three records for this location though the other two are in the spring. Found stationary along the muddy edge of a sizable mud flat to the right of the EQT pond. Appeared to be enjoying the bright, warm sun on the exposed flat, and then (as far too often happens here) a small parade of ATVs and dirt bikes flushed it along with all the killdeers. Exploded into quick, zig-zagging flight, ascending rapidly while flying eastward. In flight I noted the bird’s brilliant, white belly, orange tail, and short, “shark fin,” wings with dark undersides. Watched fly off for almost 30 seconds before it disappeared from sight. Awesome!
