Observation details
This distant bird caused some confusion, with several of us thinking South Polar Skua when it appeared. The wing pattern is strange with the large white patches on the coverts or thereabouts (half way along the upper wing). A couple of photos In Klaus Malling Olsen's and Hans Larsson's Skuas and Jaegers book of immature birds show such patches. Everything else about the bird seems appropriate for an immature pomarine jaeger though harder to age precisely.
