Ringed kingfisher flying towards a tall tree
Observation details
Clear identification with photos of at least one specimen seen in cottonwood trees on the pond near road past the L-turn. There was a possible sighting of a second one. Crow sized kingfisher with bright red-orange underparts, huge thick beak. Posed in close enough proximity for multiple photos and distinctive with the naked eye, with a belted kingfisher nearby showing a clear comparison of the two. Another kingfisher was seen in a tree over a distant pond, first thought to be belted. Upon closer inspection of photos zoomed in closely it displays the massive beak and coloration of the ringed kingfisher.
