Observation details
Liz Doull notified me the Caspian Terns that flew from Big Island Causeway earlier were possibly mixed with large group of Terns at Savage Point , To distant for bins . I set up the spotting scope and we watched for quite a while as large flock of terns and mixed gulls resting on sandbar off Savage Point with incoming tide After the group moved around some were able to positively ID at least 3 Caspians. After quite a while , rising tide was making the sandbar shorter and narrower , forcing the birds to slowly move closer to Savage Point. I made the deicison to walk back out on inward side of Savage Point and slowly make my way to sandbar at end . Little by little with lot of stops to check status was finally able to get within good scope distance and even advanced to respectable camera distance for 420 mm tripod shots . One flew over me on way out low and squawking nearly all way to Melmerby .Counted 9 still on sandbar with mixed gulls and lots of Common Terns & Cormorants Pleasure boar eventually cruised by very close and put them up , None of the birds returned while I was there. I waa able to get 7 birds in the one photo . others were in another small group close by
