Observation details
Spotted while sitting on the top deck of the Ovation of the Seas cruise ship off the port side (west). I originally thought it was a Buller’s shearwater based on coloration, but the heavily arced flight pattern screamed Pterodrama to me. Upon photo review, it was clearly a petrel. Bird shows uniformly dark upper parts, a dark crown contrasting the white forehead, and white underparts with strong, dark leading edges. Photos. Apparently BC’s fifth record and the first photographed in Canada.
