African Collared Dove
Observation details
Reported on Twitter today by resident Paul Nyhan as a Eurasian Collared Dove (present about a week?), I visited to check it out. I met his mother, just as the bird started calling. It called about 4 times while I was there; several series of calls about every 10 minutes. I could never visually find the Dove, probably due to the forested neighborhood. There were plenty of Mourning Doves and Blue Jays around (a feeder is behind the house). The calls (with a rythmic rolling quality) were definitely those of African Collared Dove, as confirmed by Xeno-canto recordings on my phone. I attempted thrice to record this bird live. Will try to attach audio files. I never was able to see the bird, though it might have flown up from the ground near the driveway. I respected private property during my visit.
