Observation details
The photo was taken through a 20-60X, 80 mm spotting scope using an iPod Touch. The photo depicts the black bill and plumes on the back of the head which differentiate it from a Great Egret. Per my Sibley guide, the lores of Little Egret should only be yellow in April and May, so that species is eliminated. Unfortunately, the photo does not show the toes, but they were bright yellow, eliminating both juvenile Little Blue Heron and Cattle Egret.
