Observation details
Lifer! One bird spotted perched in a tree a few hundred meters from nest, flew in to the nest box to give some decent scope views but no photos before entering the box and transforming into a small, unidentifiable lump inside the box. After maybe fifteen minutes of waiting, the bird didn't reemerge, so we resigned ourselves to the views, and left. A hundred meters down the road, spotted up a raptor on the fence by the highway, slammed on the brakes ... Aplomado at point-blank range. Sat and preened for about 15 minutes, giving absolutely ridiculous looks. Probably the closest I've been to any wild falcon, nevermind an aplomado
