Observation details
We were laying out transects for our research in the marsh and nearly ran right into this little fella, he was standing stock still right at eye level and I couldn't even figure out what I was looking at until I saw his eyes looking back at me! He stayed completely still for about a minute and a half while I was about six inches from him. When we eventually had to try and get around him, he scampered off into the cattail. What an incredible and unforgettable experience! So much smaller than one could imagine! Photos were taken with my phone with no zoom. I don't think I've ever been this close to a bird in its natural habitat!
