Observation details
Initially thought this was a Wood-Pewee purree call, before it flew into a distant canopy and perched for three minutes. Clear white banding on tail, short. Subspecies: The Broad-winged Hawk is identifiable down to the subspecies level only reliably on the basis of range. The other five subspecies are endemic residents in the Lesser Antilles. For more, see https://ebird.org/checklist/S73276877 or https://birdinginvermont.com/nfc-species/bwha. I am changing this bird's identification retroactively to have my best recording, so far, of this bird be included under searches for the subspecies. There are to date no subspecies audio records in Vermont.
