Observation details
Originally misidentified as a juvenile Long-billed based on lack of tiger patterning on tertials. Per Jon Dunn, identification based on a bit of internal barring on the inner greater coverts (which can be more evident than on the tertials), some spotting on the sides, warm color on the breast, and relatively short legs. Jon reiterated that there are only a handful of western USA records of juvenile Long-billeds prior to the first week of September (he has only seen one in very late August in California). My first for the year. Mixed in large Willet flock east of UCLA ramp.
