Observation details
First Northern California Record, found in a residential yard in Woodland California. The bold markings on breast, wing bars, framed and bold white throat and large bold white tail spots marks this as an Eastern (T. c. curvirostre group) vs the western Palmer's group which lacks these field marks. The fact that this bird is of the eastern race makes its appearance in Northern California all the more remarkable. Apparently this bird has been in the neighborhood for months (fide home owner). It apparently feeds on chick scratch the home owner puts out for her chickens. Photo was taken in very poor light. and dense fog.
