C.T639. Early morning recording at an artificial waterhole made in Khaya Ndhlovu Game Reserve in South Africa's Limpopo Province starting at 06h45 on 2/3/10 . Temperature 22C. The recording starts with several Magpie Shrikes at 0.04s. Several Woodland Kingfishers (3-4) that were bathing by diving into the water and then dashing back to a bush where they chattered loudly. 0.11s Magpie Shrike. Long-billed Crombec in background. 0.14 Magpie Shrike. 0.17 Woodland Kingfisher. 0.23 White-crowned Shrike + single Magpie Shrike (both calling from same bush). 0.32 Woodland Kingfisher. White-crowned Shrike & Magpie Shrike in back. 0.38 Magpie Shrike and White-crowned Shrike. Lots of traffic noise. 1.25 Magpie Shrike. 1.44 Magpie + White-crowned Shrike. Emerald-spotted Wood Dove in back. 2.50 Woodland Kingfisher. Magpie Shrike continues to 3.04. Starts again at 3.15. 3.52 Woodland Kingfisher. 4.16 Black-collared Barbet duet in back. Magpie Shrike at 4.32 & 4.41. White-crowned Shrike at 4.46. Brown-hooded Kingfisher in back at 4.56. Red-billed Buffalo Weaver at 5.05 & 5.42 - competes with Magpie Shrike. 6.52 Red-billed Buffalo Weaver. Grey Hornbill gives piping call in back. Red-billed Buffalo Weaver at 7.06. Woodland Kingfisher at 7.25 together with Grey Hornbill. Lots of traffic noise. Equipment used a Sound Devices 722 and the microphones an MS system with two Sennheiser MHK 30 & 40 microphones.
