Media notes
Eastern Wood-pewee group, perhaps a family group, giving unusual calls from the lower canopy. This might be the same individual as in ML167899631. There is a segment where the focal bird flies out as if chasing an insect and does loud bill snapping (1:18). The distance is about 14-15 meters at 0657. Recorder HPF on at 80Hz, -12dB/octave.
Observation details
There were at least 5 singing males doing dawn song this morning well before sunrise. It was interesting that most of them became quiet after the dawn chorus. The "family" group consisted of what appeared to be 2 adults and 3 juveniles. I am fairly certain that ML167899751 is a young bird that was trying out his syrinx. He produced some very unusual calls and sounds mostly while perched. He then started singing fairly normal songs.
