Observation details
Reported two days ago by the Stevensons. We first heard the ka-beer call several times and followed it to a tree on the left side of the ranch drive. They flew and landed on a tree further away on the right side of the drive. We clearly heard the ka-beer call several times and also the rruh-rruh shriek (described in iBirdPro). They were in a mixed flock of about six birds with the majority being Western Kingbirds who were calling and singing as well. This allowed for a good comparison of the two species. We heard two calling at once. Cassin’s Kingbirds are known to breed nearby at Deep Springs College. We did not get close enough for good photographs or a good visual view of the field marks. Ron attempted a recording but it was distant and windy. We will add it if they can be heard.
