Observation details
Small egret, Snowy-sized with straight, dark bill, yellow lores, black legs and yellow feet. Structurally, this bird was identical to a Snowy Egret, with medium length legs, and shorter bill compared to LIEG proportions. Shaggy crest visible from multiple angles, extending from back of head down nape. Long head plume dangled half way (approximately; depending on neck position) down neck, but unable to tell if it was a single plume or two feathers. Viewed for about two minutes in good light before bird flew further back into marsh and continued feeding. Presumed hybrid, showing key field marks for Snowy Egret but with head plume of Little Egret. It’s possible other observations of this individual have been reported as LIEG.
