Habitat: cattail-sedge marsh; small marshy pond (1/10 acre) in clearing in spruce-balsam forest. Weather: becoming overcast; slight breeze. Identification by: Randolph S. Little by comparison with "Voices of the Night" record. Physical Description of Sound: How Distinguished: typical trill, like an American Toad at half-speed, but of 1/2 second duration only. Apparent Biological Purpose of Sound: advertisement. What Behavior Accompanied Vocalization: frogs in small pond. What Did Animal Do When Not Vocalizing? same. Water 12" deep. The microphone was held reasonably close to two different individuals about 20' apart. Microphone held about 18" above water.
