Observation details
*rare; high-plumaged adult on rocks off tip, that I was able to show to Joel Eckerson as well; large, pale gray-backed tern with black legs, black cap shaggy at rear, and long medium-orange bill slightly downturned. Later took flight, showing even pale-gray upperwing and mostly pale underside of primaries with fairly narrow and indistinct dusky trailing edge. Flew several circles over rocks and then headed out to East, last seen high off tip of Barney’s Joy. Photos
