Hooded Warbler
Observation details
Located the single male Hooded Warbler that had been reported for several days in the patch of cottonwood forest along the trail in the northeast corner of the park. I heard what I thought was the bird on the previous day (Thursday) and made a couple of iPhone recordings, but could never get a glimpse of the bird. On this day (Friday) after about 30 minutes I heard the bird calling again, and got another iPhone recording. There was another birder there, armed with a scope and large parabolic microphone, who both confirmed the vocalization and gave me a brief glimpse closeup view of the bird through his scope. (BTW, big props to him for being able to get a flitting warbler in a scope in a patch of dense woods). The bird was in full male breeding plumage, bright yellow face with a jet black hood and throat.
