Observation details
Previously seen and reported by Kenny Anderson and Sam Fason. Observed today with Sam & Nate McGowan in the NW corner of Pond 1W in with 5 WFIB. We spent a little under an hour carefully studying all birds with a scope from a distance of about 30-50 yards. For a while, several were too tucked into the taller grass to get any reasonable looks but all eventually made their way fairly close and we were afforded unobstructed views. While all birds admittedly appeared somewhat dark-eyed due to the lighting and distance, all but one appeared to have a pinkish tone to the facial skin around the eye while one appeared much colder, with pale, bluish borders that terminated at the midpoint of the eye (not surrounding the eye). The bird also appeared darker and bulkier, features that were accentuated when the bird took flight with the group to roost.
