Observation details
Presumed Kentucky Warbler recorded in riparian cover between Mt Trashmore and Allen Marsh. More notes: I first heard the bird singing, and thought “dang, I must be rusty; what the heck is that?” It was a loud single phrase song, and it might be worth noting that my first thought was NOT “what warbler is that?”, as my first impression was that of a somewhat larger bird . I finally tried to convince myself that it might be an odd, partial song from a Macgillrvry’s Warbler, due to its “churry” phrases, but when I later played it for Rob Fowler he immediately said it was no Mac and compared it to some Kentucky Warbler songs and we both agreed that it was a perfect match! As far as visuals, I was only able to get one fleeting glimpse of the rear end of what I believe was the bird, a stocky looking bird with pale lemon yellow underparts, and once more my first thought was that it might be too “stubby” for a warbler, which, in hindsight, actually sounds pretty good for the short-tailed Kentucky, which just wasn’t on my radar at the time.
