Observation details
North American race anatum was pretty much exterminated by pesticides in the 1970s. Reintroduction programs have resulted in birds from other regions of North America (and elsewhere) being bred (from as far afield as Europe and Chile so I'm informed) and released. If Peregrines should be split at some point in the future then birds of mixed parentage (perhaps birds such as this) can no longer be treated as Peregrine Falcons and will need to be excluded from these lists. Now widespread, these birds are taking up residence in lregions where they were formerly only recorded as migrants. This is causing havoc among migrating shorebirds which are being targetted and heavily predated.
