Media notes
Subtle, soft calls throughout recording, at times hard to hear over all the Berylline and White-tailed vocalizations. Call is extremely short (00.024 sec) and starts at ~7.6kHz, descending rapidly to ~3.5kHz. Insect-like buzzing also audible in recording. This is the female.
Observation details
Fantastic to find these birds on our first stop in the Sierra! We watched the female for some time, foraging in a tree with small white flowers, then the immature male arrived and chased her around for a little while. Overall, we observed the bird for about 15 minutes or so. I was able to take some photos of the female perched.
