Media notes
It was too close so tail and leg got cut off. I guess there are worse things that can happen.
Observation details
*RARE. Lifer. Continuing on the dirt path just off the west side of the trail (crossing to east) about a hundred yards north of the central parking lot. Walking aground the trails I stumbled upon it around 10:20 and alerted everyone around. Photos were taken and high-fives exchanged. I've rarely seen my buddy Alex smile such a broad smile! Unmistakable: rich rusty brown above with some iridescent purplish sheen, and an unmissable, bold white malar stripe. Surprisingly large. After we discovered it, it kept walking deeper into the bushes, not really shy but certainly avoiding getting too close. From that I would think that the best way to find it is to walk around instead of waiting in an area where it had been before if it is correct that it tries to avoid humans.
