Originally identified this bird as Hooded Warbler, based on it's similar song, but did not see the bird on May 4. When I tried a second time to see the bird on May 6, I got good views of the bird and determined that the birds was in fact a SWWA
Observation details
Originally mis-identified this bird as a Hooded Warbler, based on its song; I could not get a view of the bird on the first trip (May 4) Cara Joos and I returned to the area to relocate the 'Hooded warbler' on May 6 and it turned out to be a Swainsons Warbler. We got close looks and good recordings. Bird had rusty cap, dark eye-line,whitish supercilium, pale beige under parts and large bill; short tail. Bird did not respond to HOWA song but responded aggressively to my recording from 5/4 and to the Swainson's Warbler song from the Sibley app. Bird is in the same general area as previous days; north end of isolated hill in center of the area. Bird is currently north of the cross trail that passes on the north side of the hill. Loud song can be heard at some distance.
