Observation details
Adult male Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala islandica) and Harlequin Duck (Histrionicus histrionicus) were spotted by Karl J. Bardon amongst a flock of Common Goldeneyes (B. clangula) along the North Shore of Lake Superior at the South Street pedestrian overpass to the Lakewalk between 16th and 17th Avenue West, Duluth, Minnesota, 18 January 2012. The Barrow's had been seen at various locations including the Duluth Harbor, Canal Park, and 21st Avenue East since its discovery by PHS in the harbor 19 November 2011. Its distinctive truncated shoulder spur suggests that this individual has returned to overwinter in Duluth for the 4th consecutive year.
