Media notes
Male and female calling. No recs molting in either bird. Joined by assumed juvi after I left. This was first pair encountered.
Observation details
- Adult male and female seen just up river of the gorge bridge. Pair was agitated and calling. Third duck seen joining them from cover along the river ridge after I backed off a little. Less black around eye, assumed younger bird. - Adult male and female sighted at km 2.6. Pair was calm and sedate. Male molting in central rectrices. - Adult male and female seen on the return track from waterfall at km 6.4. Like first pair, calling even though I was well above them looking down. Not same pair as last, one bird molting entire tail. Interesting note: birds seemed wary of a large trout that swam underneath them. - Adult male and female seen foraging at km 8.6. Possibly same pair as first one? Neither pair molting tail feathers. Although only two birds seen and they did not vocalize even though they could clearly see me. In total, these represent at least 7 birds based on pattern of tail motls.
