Observation details
One female goldeneye actively diving for nearly all of the half hour I watched it. Identified as Common mostly by bill shape and color. Bill was relatively long with fairly straight lines along culmen and underside, and lacking a bulbous nail. Bill was blackish with a vague yellowish area around the tip, not as bold as expected given the time of year (and my good scope views in good light). Head shape varied with posture, with forehead sometimes appearing steep, sometimes not. Relatively pale brown head color is supportive of Common.
