Observation details
Continuing same spot I flushed it last night. Very early record for Massachusetts (previous earliest in e-bird is 4/28), and always rare along SE MA coast in spring. Lesser Nighthawk's outer primary should be shorter than its 2nd to last primary, unlike this bird. Also, Lesser does not show the bold dark spotting on back. Difficult to separate from Antillean Nighthawk without hearing calls, but cold gray plumage and wing structure suggests Common. Very long, pointed winged when seen in flight, and wings appea to project well past tail when sitting.
