Observation details
Continuing bird, seen about 1/2 mile south of US 550, going backwards downstream. Mostly dark, but with a large white area on its face, some white on upper breast and on the rear. A light bluish-green bill is only apparent at close range. Very good photos. The best way to get to this spot is to walk south on the levee about 1/2 mile, then go down a "horse ramp" towards the river, and wait until the bird goes by. We were there over an hour before it appeared. It is a female going into breeding plumage.
