Observation details
Seen at nest colony pecking and removing pine bark with one flying in and out of artificial nest cavity. Ann Shahid confirmed that Ft. Jackson became an IBA due to these endangered woodpeckers. This colony was on the paved road half way between the office road and the campground. Trees are well marked with official signs warning not to disturb woodpeckers. I was able to stand on the paved road and observe the woodpeckers.
