Observation details
Continuing bird first found on November 14, 2018 by Philip and Samantha Andescavage! It was a group effort for me today, more than a half dozen dedicated birders searched for the towhee, and the quail-dove while I was there. (The quail-dove was not found today so far to my knowledge, although one birder I met said that he heard the quail-dove call once) We searched the area just north of the sand/dirt mound all morning and I heard and recorded the bird and some folks did see the towhee (although I only saw it fly away briefly and didn’t get a good look). Later around noon I think it was Jim Eager who tipped us off to the fact that he had just heard and seen the bird at the top of the “figure 8” of the Barrier Island Nature Trail, a bit well south of the sand/dirt mound area. To make a long story shorter a group of us went immediately over to the spot that Jim had told us about and relocated the bird by its singing and eventually we were able to see and just barely photograph it foraging on the interior floor of the habitat about 15 or so feet out at about 12:30 at coordinates: Decimal Degrees (WGS84) 26.071017, -80.112267 GPS N 26 04.261 W 080 06.736 Crazy trying to record this bird with jets constantly taking off just over a mile away at the very busy Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport. Life Bird. Thanks to everyone there today!
