Media notes
The hybrid display song sounds (in this particular case) like a higher-pitched, stuttered version of Greater Prairie-chicken; two such hybrids here; note most of the sound in this recording comes from Greater and Lesser prairie-chickens displaying on the same lek.
Observation details
*rare (but apparently regular in this area of contact between the two parental species); displaying males studied critically, with mixed grapefruit & orange on air sacs, intermediate undertail covert pattern, extremely bushy eye combs; both appeared a bit more like Greater than Lesser; the one featured in the audio recording sounds like a higher-pitched, quieter, somewhat stuttering Greater Prairie-chicken; photos, audio, video
