Observation details
Finally got some great looks at this elusive species; observed in same location as yesterday at 4:24; a large chunky dove was observed by 2 others flying into the "island" of tropical hardwood hammock with sparse ground cover and large mastic tree (some fruit) from the west at a little after 3:00, but nothing was seen again until the quail-dove appeared feeding in the leaf litter later west of the Spanish Stopper sign; back and wings was a rich rufous, contrasting white facial stripe, gleaming blue-green iridescence on crown/nape when emerged from the shadows, bright red iris; observed in and out of view for about 10 minutes until melted back into the shadows of the hammock forest floor.
